Storage: The chocolate avocado pudding tastes best the day it is made. Do not keep it at room temperature for much time as there is a chance for the avocadoes to get oxidized. But then, it stays good for up to two to three days in the refrigerator. You can also freeze it for about a month in freezer-safe containers. To serve, thaw the pudding in the refrigerator overnight the day before.

Chocolate Avocado Pudding Tips:

  • You can top the pudding with your choice of berries like strawberries or raspberries.
  • Another choice of topping would be coconut whipped cream or coconut yogurt. On the other hand, if you want crunchy topping then granola, sunflower seeds, or nuts like pistachios or hazelnuts would be great.  Cacao nibs, coconut flakes, and chocolate shavings are also excellent options.
  • To pump up the chocolate flavor, you can add more cacao powder. For making it still richer in chocolate, you can add semisweet chocolate. Heat the chocolate in the microwave for 30 to 40 seconds and melt it before adding.
  • For this recipe, use perfectly ripe avocadoes that are green and a little soft and those which doesn’t have any brown spots or streaks inside. Also avoid Florida avocado as it is more firm and doesn’t blend well.
  • For a more indulgent chocolatey flavor, you can top it with dark chocolate chips.

  • If you can get hold of vanilla bean then the bean would be the better choice than vanilla extract.
  • If you want to spice it up, then you can add dried & grounded cayenne pepper.
  • For enhancing the flavor, you can add salted peanut butter or any nut butter of your choice.
  • If you are into tangy flavor notes, then you can add ¼ cup of orange juice instead of non-dairy milk.
  • If you like textured pudding, then you can add chia seeds.
  • You can refrigerate the milk and use chilled avocadoes to serve it chilled.
  • When measuring liquid sweeteners like maple syrup or honey, it is a good idea to coat the spoon lightly with flavorless oil so that the sweeteners slip off easily.
  • If you would like more coconut flavor, then along with coconut flakes, you can also add say a quarter teaspoon of coconut extract.
  • Another excellent choice of the add-on is mint leaves and a very minute amount of mint extract.

Chocolate Avocado Pudding FAQ

For best results, follow the recipe as it is. However, some common substitutes would work well in this recipe. They are:

  • Instead of maple syrup, if you aren’t vegan you can use honey. Or else you can use dates. If you are using dates, soak them in hot water for 5 to 10 minutes and then blend well before adding them to the blender. Sweeteners like coconut sugar and stevia can also be used in this recipe. But then, avoid granulated sugar as it would give the pudding a gritty texture.
  • Instead of cacao powder, you can use sweetened or unsweetened cocoa powder as per your desired sweetness level.
  • Instead of coconut milk, you can use any nut milk like almond milk, etc.

What to do if the pudding is liquidy?

For thickening up the pudding, you can spoon in blend half of one ripe banana or sprinkle chia or flax seeds.

What to do if the pudding is too thick?

If the pudding seems too thickened, you can pour a tablespoon or two of your favorite non-dairy milk.
